IT'S LANDED
One of our finest reed players Ian Wheeler came to prominence in Ken Colyer’s Jazzmen when he replaced Acker Bilk in 1955. He left Ken Colyer and formed the Sims-Wheeler Vintage Jazz Band in 1959 along with trumpeter Ken Sims. It was a short stay before he got the call from Chris Barber to join his band replacing Monty Sunshine. Ian would spend 27 years in the Barber band playing clarinet, alto sax, soprano sax and harmonica. This tribute to a top-notch player sees Ian in a variety of bands in the company of Chris Barber, Ken Colyer, Sammy Rimington, Rod Mason, Ken Sims, Fessor Lindgreen and Dick Wellstood. Many previously unissued tracks.
